Amanda in a field

May 31 2011

Testing out my new light and octobox. Didn’t have an assistant and it was really windy, so I only got the opportunity to take a few shots.

Shackleford Wins Preakness 2011

May 24 2011

Preakness this year was a lot of fun as usual. I spent the day before preparing to cover it and building a remote camera system.  Ian and I ran around to electronic stores and Home Depot gathering electrical and audio components to put together a system so that I could put cameras in various places to capture the race.

On the day of the race, we showed up early to set up and test the cameras.  After a few hours of setup, we were done until the 6PM race.

Lightning over DC

Apr 4 2011

I was sitting at my desk last night doing some work when I was interrupted by a few repeated flashes of light. I looked out my window and there was quite an electrical storm happening in the distance. I decided to point a camera out the window to see what I would get. After about an hour of photography, this crazy photo showed up on the back of my camera.

Update: I have received many requests about prints. They are available here.

Some outtakes after the jump. (more…)

Recent Work November 2010

Nov 29 2010

Having a day job really makes it difficult to maintain a steady output of photography.  I try when I can and you can see some of my recent stuff below.  A few weeks ago, I shot a panoramic of Rosslyn, VA from my apartment.  The image is a composite of 12 exposures on my Canon 1D Mark IV.  It totals 135 megapixels.  Most of the exposures are 6 seconds except for the road on the right, which I exposed for 30 seconds to get good car trails.  Explore the image here.  You can zoom in and see incredible detail.

This is a bucket I found in an abandoned building.  Not a great image, but I love the look.

Penn State vs Indiana at Fedex Field

Nov 22 2010

Penn State played Indiana at Fedex Field in Washington DC this past weekend.  This was a cool game, because it was an NFL stadium (Redskins) and I got to see a ton of old friends from Penn State who drove/flew in for the game.  Here are some of my photos.
